Mulch

This is a great time to top up any parts of your garden that need it with mulch. Mulch truly is the best way to retain any moisture that has soaked into the soil and is a great way to suppress any unwanted weeds. We have a large range of mulches available in-store that are perfect for all your gardening needs.

Water

Now that the weather is warming up it is important to understand the necessity of water conservation and what we can do when it comes to helping our environment. Whether we are in a drought or not, it is vital to consider our water usage. The best way is to learn how we can make the most of the natural rainfall and the precautions we can take to utilize every drop we use.
First, we can do this by using water retention granules. These crystals retain moisture, reducing your overall watering requirements. There are different variations available that are suitable for garden beds, pots, hanging baskets, and even lawns.
Secondly, watering at the correct time of day. The best time to water your garden is in the morning. Avoid the hottest part of the day, as you want your plants to have already absorbed the moisture before then. This will help them to combat the stress brought on by the hot afternoon sun.
Finally, setting up irrigation drippers is a great way to regulate your water usage and ensure your plants are getting the water they need on those warmer days heading into summer. If you already use irrigation, regular maintenance should be done to check that it is working well and is free of any blockages.

Lawn Maintenance

Spring is the perfect time to fertilise your lawn to encourage lush green growth and a strong root system. When mowing, be sure to lift the mower blades to encourage deeper roots and stronger grass overall. This will be vital during the scorching heat of summer to keep your lawn healthy. Play it smart and plan ahead, that way your lawn will be ready to go for all of your spring and summer fun.

Edible Garden

Homegrown food is the best food, the taste is sweeter, and each bite is a hard-earned delight. October is the month to try planting pumpkin, squash, zucchini, sweet corn, capsicum, cucumber, eggplant, and watermelon.
Tomatoes are excellent for planting all year round here in sunny Queensland, check out our blog on how to grow tomatoes to see how you can get the most out of your crop. Co-plant your tomatoes with basil, parsley, and mint, for an eco-friendly way to combat pests.
Strawberries are another perfect addition to your garden. With so many varieties to choose from, these delicious berries are a must-have for any home gardener. If strawberries aren’t your thing, you could also try passionfruit, bananas, citrus, or even macadamias.
